zacatitos
East Cape, BCS Mexico
Zacatitos is an off-grid community, meaning it does not have a power grid supply (known locally as “CFE”), and water is trucked in from local aquifers. However, advancements in solar technology make running air conditioning through the summer months no problem, and satellite internet keeps you connected. People are drawn to the area for its natural beauty, stunning beaches, amazing weather, and close proximity to the conveniences of big box stores and two airports.
From December to April, whale watching from the beach is a spectacle not to be missed as whales come to the warmer Sea of Cortez to have their babies. After the whales depart, surfers arrive to ride the famous point breaks around the East Cape, brought by the southern summer swells. The East Cape is also brimming with activities like hiking, cycling, dirt biking, and UTV trails.
Zacatitos boasts a great restaurant, “Zacs Bar and Grill,” an on-site realtor, “Coastal Properties of Cabo,” a coffee shop, “Coco-Loco,” and a general store, “Central Station.” A plaza is also being built for boutique stores.
What makes Zacatitos unique is that it does not have a homeowners’ association. Instead, it has an AC that collects and administers funds for on-site security, ensuring homes are safe when residents are away. Zacatitos welcomes a diverse range of residents, from bankers and tech tycoons to retirees looking for their happy place.
